On Thursday, Simplex Castings announced its selection to lead a consortium tasked with developing a pioneering green hydrogen-powered direct reduced iron (DRI) pilot plant. This project is set to operate under a government initiative aimed at technological and environmental advancements.
The pilot plant will boast a production capacity of 40 tons per day, as confirmed by the company in a released statement. Collaborating with industry experts, Simplex Castings will join hands with partners such as BSBK Pvt Ltd, Ten Eighty Investment, and IIT Bhilai, pooling resources to ensure project success.
The project's financial framework includes a total capital expenditure of Rs 230 crore. The government will significantly support the initiative by covering approximately Rs 161 crore, equating to 70% of the required funding. This project is part of broader government efforts, including developing DRI using 100% hydrogen in various formats.
