Rocket Motor Demand Soars Amid Global Conflicts
Aerojet Rocketdyne, under L3Harris Technologies, has significantly boosted its production of motors for GMLRS rockets due to increased global demand driven by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The surge in demand is reshaping the global military strategy and spurring new business entrants.
L3Harris Technologies' Aerojet Rocketdyne unit has dramatically increased its production of rocket motors to meet the rising global demand, particularly as conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East escalate. According to company executives, production has doubled, highlighting a global surge in military needs for rockets and missiles.
This surge represents a boon for L3Harris, the leading U.S. defense contractor, which acquired Aerojet in 2022. The acquisition has enabled L3Harris to ramp up production capacity in response to unanticipated demand driven by the war in Ukraine, forcing the Pentagon to consider restocking its arsenal with more Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets.
The increase in demand has encouraged new players in the rocket manufacturing sector to enter the scene, even though they lack mass production capabilities. Aerojet's impressive infrastructure, including advanced manufacturing facilities in Huntsville, Alabama, marks significant strides in today's military readiness landscape.
