Europe is set to advance its technological prowess with the nomination of Henna Virkkunen as head of tech sovereignty and security. Her focus will be on expanding the EU's use of artificial intelligence and disruptive technological advancements for military applications.

In preparation for her role, Virkkunen has revealed plans to introduce an AI and Cloud Development Act, aiming to address the EU's productivity gap with major global competitors, China and the United States. This initiative comes amid EU Parliament hearings next month to assess new Commission roles.

Reinforcing the significance of AI growth, Nvidia's CEO advocated for expedited progress in AI technology, coinciding with Virkkunen's priority of ensuring child protection from social media. Her duties extend to helping develop the European Defence Union, amidst escalating geopolitical tensions.
