Pioneering Spacewalks: Private Citizens Venture Outside SpaceX Capsule
SpaceX, the first private company to attempt a spacewalk, is preparing for its inaugural event involving tech billionaire Jared Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis. The duo will undergo extensive training for the risky venture, which comes two days post-launch from Florida. The mission aims to gather critical data and develop new spacesuits for future endeavors.
Space tourism has evolved with a new thrill for the wealthy: spacewalking. Tech billionaire Jared Isaacman is set to make history with the first private spacewalk, exiting a SpaceX capsule just days after launching from Florida.
Partnering with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Isaacman has invested in a series of rocket rides and new spacesuit developments. SpaceX is the first private entity to challenge the domain of 12 nations that have previously conducted spacewalks, which are considered extremely dangerous and require stringent training.
Retired NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy emphasized the hazards, recalling a near-fatal incident in 2013. Despite the perils, experts believe spacewalking for non-professionals is inevitable, though training and honesty about risks are crucial. The mission will involve Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis testing new suits while tethered to the capsule.
