Brazil Divided Over Supreme Court vs. Elon Musk Social Media Feud
A recent poll revealed Brazilians are divided over Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes' decision to suspend social media platform X. While a slight majority believe Moraes is right in his feud with Elon Musk, concerns arise over fines on VPN users and freezing Starlink accounts. The poll interviewed 1,617 people.
A recent poll shows a divide among Brazilians over Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes' order to suspend social media platform X in the country. The slight majority supports the judge in his legal dispute with billionaire Elon Musk, but actions like imposing fines on VPN users and freezing Starlink accounts have been labeled 'abusive' by many citizens.
Pollster AtlasIntel revealed that 50.9% of respondents disagreed with Moraes' decision to suspend X, while 48.1% agreed, and 0.9% were unsure. When asked about the public feud between Moraes and Musk, 49.7% sided with the judge, while 43.9% backed Musk, and 5.4% remained neutral.
The long-standing feud centers around X's refusal to appoint a local legal representative and comply with Brazilian court orders. A significant 48.9% of Brazilians believe X should have adhered to the orders, with 37.6% supporting Musk's decision to defy them. The poll also found that 64.5% opposed fines on VPN users, and 55.1% considered the blocking of Starlink accounts 'abusive.' The poll has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
