Elon Musk's Battle with Brazilian Courts: Starlink and X Accounts Unfrozen
Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes unfroze Starlink and X bank accounts after transferring 18.35 million reais owed by X in fines to the national coffers. This followed a legal feud with billionaire Elon Musk over compliance issues, leading to the blockage of access to X platform in Brazil.
Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has unfrozen Starlink and X bank accounts. The action came after 18.35 million reais ($3.3 million) were transferred to the national coffers, covering fines X owed the country.
The decision stems from a dispute involving billionaire Elon Musk and Moraes, who had initially frozen the accounts due to X's failure to comply with orders to block accounts spreading 'fake news' and hate messages. These orders were deemed necessary to protect democracy by Moraes.
Moraes has not lifted the block on access to X in Brazil, the company's sixth-largest market, due to X's failure to appoint a local legal representative and ignore content removal orders. Musk, who owns X and a significant portion of Starlink, has labeled these actions as 'censorship.'
