Brazilian Supreme Court Upholds Block on Elon Musk's Social Media Platform
A panel from Brazil's Supreme Court upheld a decision to block Elon Musk's social media platform, X, nationwide. Justice Alexandre de Moraes, among the five justices on the panel, had ordered the block for non-compliance with local laws. The platform will remain blocked until compliance and fines are resolved.
Brazil's Supreme Court panel has confirmed a decision to uphold the nationwide block on billionaire Elon Musk's social media platform, X. According to the court's website, this ruling supports one of its justices, Alexandre de Moraes.
The support from the broader panel deals a major setback to Musk and his supporters, who have criticized Justice de Moraes as an authoritarian censor of political speech. The panel includes five of the court's 11 justices, among them de Moraes, who last week mandated the platform's blockade for its failure to appoint a legal representative within the country, as legally required.
As per the ruling, X will stay blocked until it meets legal compliance and settles outstanding fines amounting to over $3 million.
