Walmart group's fintech arm PhonePe has announced a new partnership with cross-border payment solutions provider Liquid Group. The collaboration aims to expand PhonePe's merchant acceptance network in Singapore, allowing Indian tourists to make transactions using UPI.

'We are thrilled to partner with Liquid Group to bring the convenience of UPI payments to Indian travellers visiting Singapore,' said Ritesh Pai, CEO of International Payments at PhonePe. 'This popular destination is a favourite among Indian tourists, and we are excited to empower them to pay quickly and easily at their favourite food, shopping, and sightseeing spots.'

Under this collaboration, QR codes will be available at various tourist-centric locations such as Changi Airport, duty-free shops, and renowned eateries like Hard Rock café. The initiative is also facilitated by Liquid Group's partnership with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). 'By integrating UPI into our extensive merchant network, we are simplifying transactions and reinforcing our commitment to providing seamless cross-border payment solutions,' said Alvin Seck, CCO of Liquid Group.
