Hundreds of workers at a Samsung Electronics plant in southern India have erected tents outside the factory as they plan to boycott work to demand higher wages, a move anticipated to disrupt the South Korean giant's operations for a second day.
Samsung employs approximately 1,800 workers at its Sriperumbudur plant near the city of Chennai, which manufactures consumer electronics items such as refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions. About half of the plant's daily production was affected when many workers did not turn up for work on Monday, and the protest continues.
"We are striking for the second day," stated union leader E. Muthukumar. Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
