In alignment with the Digital India vision, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) continues to advance its integrated approach to Digital Governance through the Capacity Building Scheme of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD).

A key initiative under this scheme is the ongoing 2-day training programme on ‘Applications of AI/ML’, which began on August 8, 2024. This programme, conducted in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam, is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of government officials in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Details of the Training Programme:

Inauguration: The training was inaugurated by Shri. G. T. Venkateshwar Rao, IRS (Retd.), Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Retd.). The event is being held at IIM Visakhapatnam and features 26 participants from various states including New Delhi, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, and West Bengal.

Inaugural Address: Shri Rao emphasized the need for robust infrastructure to integrate AI and ML into existing systems, stressing the importance of data security and privacy. He highlighted that AI and ML can significantly enhance government capabilities by anticipating citizen needs, streamlining processes, and enabling data-driven decision-making.

Training Goals: The programme aims to equip officers with effective strategies for the responsible implementation of AI technologies. This includes addressing regulatory challenges, adhering to ethical standards, and ensuring practices that are transparent and compliant with privacy regulations.

Capacity Building Scheme: Under the Digital India Programme, the Capacity Building Scheme is designed to develop the necessary skills at all government levels, providing targeted training to help conceptualize, lead, design, and implement e-governance projects. The scheme is part of a broader effort to improve governance through technology and ensure that officials are well-prepared to manage and deploy digital solutions.

This training initiative is a part of NeGD's ongoing efforts to foster digital literacy and competency among government officials, contributing to more efficient and effective governance through advanced technology.
