The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced on Friday that their navy now possesses advanced cruise missiles capable of delivering highly explosive and undetectable warheads, according to state media reports.

The announcement coincides with rising Middle East tensions following the assassination of Palestinian Islamist Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31. Iran blamed Israel for the assassination, while Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.

'In today's world, you either have to be powerful to survive or surrender. There's no middle ground,' said Major-General Hossein Salami, the Guards' top commander. A statement from the Guards highlighted that these new missiles, now part of their navy fleet, can cause extensive damage and sink their targets undetected.

The Guards' navy also disclosed that various long and medium-range missile systems, reconnaissance drones, and naval radars have been upgraded. These additions are listed among the most modern anti-surface and sub-surface weapons in their arsenal.

State television showcased several of these new weapons on Friday. However, it noted that only 210 of the 2,654 systems were displayed due to security concerns. Iran boasts one of the most extensive missile programs in the Middle East, viewing such weapons as critical for deterrence and retaliation against the U.S. and Israel in case of conflict.

The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence states that Iran has the largest number of ballistic missiles in the region.
