In a revolutionary move to enhance the safety and efficiency of armed forces personnel, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has developed specialized shoes for soldiers. These cutting-edge shoes are equipped with technology that generates electricity and detects the wearer's location in real-time.

IIT Indore has already delivered the first batch of 10 pairs to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). According to IIT Indore director Professor Suhas Joshi, the innovative features of these shoes will significantly boost the safety, coordination, and efficiency of Army personnel.

Under the guidance of Professor I A Palani, the shoes have been integrated with Tribo-Electric Nanogenerator (TENG) technology, which generates electricity with each step. This electricity is stored in a device embedded in the soles and can power small appliances. Furthermore, using GPS and RFID technologies, the shoes can determine the user's real-time location. This technology has potential applications beyond the military, including aiding senior citizens with Alzheimer's, monitoring school children and climbers, and analyzing sportspersons' movements to enhance performance.
