Tata Electronics Commences Rs 27,000-Crore Chip Plant in Assam
Tata Electronics has commenced building its Rs 27,000-crore chip assembly plant in Assam, aiming to create 27,000 jobs initially. The project received Union Cabinet approval in February 2024. The plant will leverage indigenous technologies, producing 4.83 crore chips daily, and supporting the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Tata Electronics on Saturday commenced the construction of its Rs 27,000-crore chip assembly plant in Assam. The project, expected to be operational by next year, is anticipated to create 27,000 jobs initially.
Utilizing indigenous technologies, the plant is set to produce 4.83 crore chips daily. A grand Bhumi Pujan ceremony at Jagiroad in Morigaon district saw the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
Chandrasekaran mentioned the facility's potential in supporting the semiconductor ecosystem and emphasized the project's targeted completion by 2025. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the project in February 2024. According to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this initiative aligns with India's 'Act East' policy and India Semiconductor Mission, significantly boosting talent and employment in the country's northeast region.
