Google is adding an AI-powered feature to its Chrome browser that will bring Google Lens capabilities to desktop users, allowing multisearch from the search bar. Users will soon be able to search using both images and text without navigating away from their current tab, The Verge reports.

According to Parisa Tabriz, Vice President of Chrome, clicking the Google Lens icon in the search box will activate a sidebar within the existing tab. This feature, set to streamline searching by integrating Google Lens directly into the search bar, will roll out globally in the next few days.

The update aims to simplify the search process by eliminating the need to open new tabs or navigate away from the page. Previously, Google Lens was accessible via a right-click or through the settings menu in Chrome, with results displayed in a sidebar.

The Verge reports that users in the US will also get access to AI-generated Overviews for search results, providing added context. Google spokesperson Joshua Cruz confirmed this feature will be exclusive to the US market.

Moreover, Google is launching another AI-driven tool that allows users to query their search history using natural language. For example, users can ask, 'What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?' to find relevant links from their browsing history. This tool will initially be available in the US and uses a cloud-based model, with potential future on-device functionality.

Additionally, Google is enhancing its shopping features to help users compare products online, further improving Chrome's functionality and user experience.
