GRSE Secures Rs 840 Crore Deal for Ocean Research Vessel Construction
Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) signed an Rs 840 crore contract with the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) to build an ocean research vessel. The Kolkata-based shipyard, experienced in constructing survey vessels for the Indian Navy, is expected to complete the project in 42 months.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), a Defence PSU, has signed an Rs 840 crore contract with the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) for constructing an ocean research vessel, according to an official announcement on Wednesday.
The agreement, aimed at a 42-month completion timeline, was finalized between GRSE and NCPOR officials in Goa, the shipyard revealed in its stock exchange communication.
With decades of expertise in building survey vessels for the Indian Navy, GRSE is well-prepared for this project. In December 2023, GRSE successfully delivered INS Sandhayak, India's largest survey vessel, indicating a promising outlook for the new undertaking. The upcoming research vessel will measure 89.50 meters in length and 18.80 meters in width, with a gross weight of 5,900 tonnes.
