Smartphone manufacturer Oppo is aiming to sustain double-digit growth in sales of its Reno series devices in India with the introduction of the Reno 12, according to a senior company official on Friday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Reno 12 series launch, Oppo's head of product strategy, Peter Dohyung Lee, revealed that the company is striving to integrate AI features into entry-level smartphones. 'The Reno brand has been well-received in India, with steady double-digit growth in sales on a year-on-year basis since 2021. We anticipate similar results with the new series,' Lee stated.

Counterpoint Research reports that Oppo's market share in India slightly declined to 10.1% in the March 2024 quarter, down from 12% the previous year.

At the event, Oppo unveiled the Reno12 Pro 5G and Reno12 5G models, which boast AI features for photo transformation and enhanced daily productivity. The Reno12 Pro 5G will be available in 12GB RAM/256GB storage and 512GB storage versions, priced at Rs 36,999 and Rs 40,999 respectively. The Reno 12 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will retail at Rs 32,999.

Lee highlighted that the company has localized AI for photography based on feedback from prominent photographers and improved battery features tailored to Indian users. 'Oppo's Generative AI features will reach about 50 million users worldwide this year. The company has filed over 5,600 patents related to AI inventions over the past decade,' Lee said. He added that Oppo is committed to integrating AI features across its entire product lineup by the end of 2024 and has collaborated with Google and Microsoft for AI development. 'Oppo pledges never to use user data to build its own AI,' Lee affirmed.
