A team of experts from the US and Canada visited the Polavaram project site on Sunday to assess the damages caused to this major irrigation project on the Godavari river and recommend remedial measures.

According to a TDP release, the state government sought assistance from these international experts in the water resources sector as it has been challenging to evaluate the actual losses incurred over the past five years due to previous government's flawed decisions.

The experts had discussions with Central Water Resources Department officials in New Delhi before arriving in Rajahmundry on Saturday night.

After a meeting with state officials, they inspected the project site, including the diaphragm wall, two coffer dams, and the guide bund.

The team will remain at Polavaram until July 3 for a thorough analysis of the project design, current situation, and ongoing works.

Subsequently, they will hold review meetings with Central officials and representatives from the construction companies.

In a recent white paper on the Polavaram Project, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu revealed that foreign experts would conduct studies to provide insight on the project's state.
