In a significant sporting moment, Geovany Quenda has broken Cristiano Ronaldo's 22-year-old record at Sporting CP, making history during the club's critical win over Benfica. At just 17 years and eight months, Quenda emerged as the youngest player to participate in the storied Lisbon derby, maintaining a commanding presence for 72 minutes before being relieved.

Reports by Goal.com highlight that Ronaldo previously held the title after playing the derby at 17 years and 10 months in December 2002. Throughout the 2024-25 season, Quenda has been instrumental for Sporting CP, gaining prominence under former head coach Ruben Amorim, who debuted him in senior competitions.

August marked another milestone for Quenda when he became the youngest in club history to score a league goal, netting at age 17 years and 95 days during a 4-3 match loss to FC Porto. Currently, Quenda boasts 16 appearances in Liga Portugal with one goal, contributing to Sporting CP leading the league with a tenure of 40 points in 16 matches. Porto shares points but lags in goal difference, while Benfica challenges closely with 38 points.

Sporting, driven by 13 victories and a goal difference of 34, aims to sustain its lead as changes in coaching unfold. Following Ruben Amorim's exit, Joao Pereira was swiftly replaced by Rui Borges after failing to secure a win in his initial matches. Sporting resumes its quest to top the standings against Vitoria on January 3 at Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques (ANI).
