Trailblazing T-10 Women's Deaf Premier League Returns to Mumbai

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) is set to host the second T-10 Women's Deaf Premier League in Mumbai, Maharashtra, from January 7 to January 9, 2025. The tournament will see participation from five specially-abled women's teams, representing different regions across the country, all competing for the prestigious Premier League trophy. Sumit Jain, president of IDCA, expressed gratitude towards supporters such as Serum Institute of India, Cyrus Poonawalla Group, Nykaa Foundation, and Indo Count for backing their initiative to promote hearing-impaired female athletes.
The event is scheduled to begin with an elaborate opening ceremony at the Police Gymkhana Cricket Ground in Mumbai on January 7 at 9 AM. Five teams, namely UP Warriorz, Mumbai Stars, Delhi Bulls, Hyderabad Eagles, and Bangalore Badshahs, will compete in a series of 10 matches over three days, culminating in the final match on January 9, 2025. According to a press release, the two top teams will vie for the championship in this decisive showdown.
Supported by the Serum Institute of India and the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, this year's edition emphasizes diversity and inclusion within specially-abled sports. The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 while the runner-up will take home Rs 50,000. Additionally, awards for exceptional individual performances in categories like batting, bowling, fielding, and super sixes will be distributed at the closing ceremony on January 9 at 3 PM.
Roma Balwani, CEO of IDCA, expressed excitement about organizing the tournament in Mumbai and highlighted the role of disability sports in championing diversity. The opening ceremony will see the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Harjinder Kang, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India. Balwani extended her gratitude to all partners for supporting the vision of promoting deaf cricket domestically and internationally, and lauded the persistence and sportsmanship of the participating women athletes.
