In a thrilling performance, Marco Jansen of South Africa etched his name in the record books by smashing the fastest fifty against India in T20I history. Playing in the third match of the series at SuperSport Park, Jansen scored a scintillating 54 runs in just 17 balls, featuring five sixes and four boundaries, at an extraordinary strike rate of 317.65.
During the Centurion T20I, the 24-year-old surpassed Australia's Cameron Green, who previously held the record with a 19-ball fifty, achieved in the 2022 series in Hyderabad. Notable mentions include West Indies' Johnson Charles and Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka, who both reached the milestone in 20 balls in different matches.
South Africa opted to field after winning the toss. India's innings was anchored by half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, propelling them to 219/6. The Proteas' bowling was led by Andile Simelane and Keshav Maharaj, each claiming two wickets. Despite a valiant chase, with contributions from Heinrich Klaasen and the record-breaking Jansen, India triumphed with Arshdeep Singh delivering key wickets.
