Canadian Women's Soccer Coach Dismissed Over Drone Scandal
Bev Priestman will not return as head coach of the Canadian women's soccer team after being banned due to a drone spying scandal at the Paris Olympics. FIFA prohibited Priestman and two others for a year after spying complaints. Canada Soccer is now searching for a new head coach.
Bev Priestman has been dismissed from her role as head coach of the Canadian women's soccer team following an independent investigation into allegations of drone spying during the Paris Olympics. The scandal led to her suspension from any soccer-related activities for one year by FIFA.
The controversy arose when officials in New Zealand accused the Canadian team of flying drones over their training sessions before their opening match in Paris. As a result, Priestman, along with two other team officials, faced punitive measures from the international soccer body.
In response to the findings of an independent review commissioned by Canada Soccer, the governing body confirmed that Priestman and the other suspended individuals would not return to their roles. The search for a new head coach is now underway.
