India made a powerful debut at the World University Shooting Championship, with Aakash Bhardwaj and Palak both clinching silver in the 10m air pistol categories for men and women respectively. This impressive start saw the host nation picking up three medals on the championship's opening day.
Aakash nearly claimed the gold but was edged out by Pavel Schejbal from the Czech Republic in a nail-biting finale. Despite a valiant effort, Aakash's tally of 238.8 fell short compared to Pavel's winning score of 239.8. Amit Sharma and Samrat Rana were also in the final, finishing sixth and seventh.
In the thrilling women's event, Palak narrowly missed the top spot, losing to Liu Heng-Yiu of Chinese Taipei, who shot 239.4. Arshdeep Kaur secured bronze, marking another successful milestone for India. The championship, hosted by Manav Rachna International Institute, includes 220 participants from 23 nations.
