South Africa has taken a commanding grip on the second Test against Bangladesh after three of its batters scored maiden centuries. Tony de Zorzi struck 177 while Wiaan Mulder remained unbeaten on 105, as South Africa declared its first innings on a formidable 575-6 on Day 2.
The hosts then solidified their position, reducing Bangladesh to a precarious 38-4 by stumps, increasing the likelihood of the visitors following on. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed a second consecutive five-wicket haul with figures of 5/198, but his achievements barely dented South Africa's strong standing.
The declaration came after Mulder completed his century by hitting spinner Taijul for a six. Mulder, along with Senuran Muthusamy, who made his maiden Test fifty, shared an unbeaten 152-run partnership for the seventh wicket, frustrating Bangladesh's bowling attack. As the match progresses, South Africa remains in firm control.
