Tiger Woods was notably absent from the initial player list for the Hero World Challenge, scheduled for December 5-8 in Albany, Bahamas. However, Woods could still join through one of the three exemption spots available for the tournament.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, has been off the competitive golf circuit since missing the British Open cut in July and undergoing a microdecompression surgery in September. The surgery aimed to alleviate nerve impingement in his lower back, but Woods has yet to provide updates on his recovery timeline.

Earlier in the year, the 48-year-old was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational, another event he hosts, due to illness. Despite finishing 60th at the Masters, Woods struggled at the next three majors, prompting him to take a break. Although he missed last year's Hero World Challenge after ankle surgery, Woods is targeting a return at the upcoming December event.
