Cyclone Delays National Junior Athletics Championships
The 39th National Junior Athletics Championships, originally set for October 25 in Odisha, has been postponed due to an impending cyclone. Affected by a depression over the Bay of Bengal, the Athletics Federation of India announced the postponement with a new date to follow.
The imminent threat of a cyclone has forced a postponement of the 39th National Junior Athletics Championships, which was slated to commence on October 25 in Odisha. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced the decision on Tuesday.
The event, scheduled to run for five days at Kalinga Stadium, has been delayed due to the adverse weather forecast. A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal evolved into a depression, with meteorologists predicting a severe cyclonic storm.
According to Mrutunjay Mohapatra, the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Odisha is expected to be most affected by this weather system. The new date for the championships will be announced soon.
