New Zealand's cricket captain Kane Williamson is set to miss the upcoming Test match against India, scheduled to begin on Thursday in Pune, as he continues to recover from a groin strain. The New Zealand Cricket board announced the decision on Instagram, clarifying that Williamson isn't fit to play yet.

Williamson sustained the injury during the recent Test series against Sri Lanka and was absent in New Zealand's historic victory over India in Bengaluru—their first Test win on Indian soil in 36 years. Head coach Gary Stead is optimistic, but Williamson isn't ready to return to the Test squad.

"Kane is improving but not fully fit," Stead reported. "We hope for further recovery in the coming days to have him join us for the third Test." New Zealand's confidence is buoyed by performances from Rachin Ravindra, who starred in their eight-wicket win at Bengaluru, and key bowlers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke.
