On his Swiss Indoors debut, top-seeded Andrey Rublev emerged victorious over Portugal's Nuno Borges, scoring 6-3, 6-2. This win boosts Rublev's odds of qualifying for his fifth consecutive ATP Finals, as he currently ranks eighth in the race, just above competitor Alex de Minaur, who competes in Vienna.

Elsewhere, fifth-seeded Ugo Humbert displayed tenacity, delivering 13 aces to overcome Swiss qualifier Jerome Kym with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5 victory. Humbert's subsequent opponent will be David Goffin, a lucky loser who battled past Matteo Arnaldi with a score of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2.

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Arthur Fils faced challenges against German qualifier Daniel Altmaier. Fils clinched the match 7-6 (5), 6-3, after saving two set points and recovering from a break in the second set.
