Chaos at Djurgarden vs. Hammarby: Fans Evacuated After Fireworks Disrupt Match
A tense soccer match between Djurgarden and Hammarby was abruptly halted when fireworks were thrown onto the field, prompting Swedish police to withdraw permission for the public event. Fans were ordered to leave the Tele2 Arena, causing chaos as some refused to vacate the premises.
In an unprecedented move, Swedish police revoked permission for the public to attend the latter part of the match between Djurgarden and Hammarby, leading to an immediate evacuation of fans from the Tele2 Arena. This sudden decision followed an incident where fireworks were hurled onto the pitch after Djurgarden fell behind 2-0 against their rivals.
Following the disruption, players and officials exited the field, and approximately 50 minutes later, authorities declared the event dissolved due to inadequate security measures. The police stated, 'The police authority has decided to dissolve a public event at Tele2 Arena today, Sunday, October 20,' citing insufficient order and safety guarantees by the event's organizers.
While a majority of the audience complied and evacuated, a defiant minority lingered, chanting their refusal to leave as security forces attempted to clear the venue. The stadium lights were dimmed, adding to the uncertainty about whether the match would continue as planned on Sunday.
