In a setback for the young cricketing talent, Samit Dravid has been ruled out of the opening four-day game between India U-19 and Australia U-19 due to a knee injury. The series commenced on Monday, with Dravid currently recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar confirmed Dravid's unavailability, casting doubt on his participation in the second match of the series scheduled to start from October 7 at Chepauk. Dravid, the son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, was keen on making his debut but missed out on the three-match youth one-dayers earlier in the series.

As Dravid approaches the age limit for U-19 cricket, this series represents his final opportunity to don the India U-19 jersey. His recovery progress remains under watch, with hopes he might return for the second four-day match. Coach Kanitkar emphasized the developmental benefits of playing red-ball cricket at the U-19 level, particularly against foreign opponents.
