Typhoon Bebinca Strikes Shanghai: A Historic Storm Hits the City

Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai on Monday, marking the most potent tropical cyclone to strike the Chinese financial hub in more than seven decades. Categorized as a Category 1 storm, Bebinca packed wind speeds of up to 151 kph (94 mph) near its eye as it hit the city at around 7:30 a.m. (2330 GMT), according to state media.

Shanghai, which is infrequently struck by strong typhoons that usually land further south, faced widespread disruptions. Hundreds of flights were canceled at the city's two airports since Sunday night, and rail services from the Shanghai railway station were suspended. The storm's arrival coincides with China's mid-Autumn Festival public holiday.

In response to the severe weather, major resorts such as Shanghai Disney Resort, Jinjiang Amusement Park, and Shanghai Wild Animal Park were temporarily closed. Additionally, numerous ferries halted operations to ensure safety.
