ATP and WTA Tours Trial Relaxed Fan Movement: Positive Feedback Received
A trial allowing more freedom of movement for tennis fans during ATP and WTA Tour events has received positive feedback. The trial, aimed at enhancing the fan experience, permits spectators to re-enter their seats before changeovers in the first five games of a match. A year-end review will determine its future.
The days of tennis fans missing the action while waiting patiently in queues to retake their seats could soon be over. An ongoing trial allowing more fan movement during ATP Tour events has proven popular, aimed at aligning tennis with other sports in enhancing the fan experience.
This summer, strict rules on fan movement were relaxed by both the ATP and WTA Tours. Fans are now allowed to take their seats before changeovers during the first five games of a match, excluding seats directly behind players. According to the ATP, the trial has received 'positive feedback.'
'This trial, running through the end of the year, aims to enhance the fan experience without disrupting the flow of the match or player focus,' said Ross Hutchins, ATP Chief Sporting Officer. A review at the year's end will assess its impact before deciding on next steps.
