World number two Aryna Sabalenka will return to action for the first time since her U.S. Open triumph by competing in the China Open. Sabalenka stated on Tuesday that she aims to reclaim the top ranking in the final weeks of the season. At 26, she secured her third Grand Slam title this month following consecutive Australian Open victories. With holder Iga Swiatek absent due to personal reasons, Sabalenka stands as the firm favorite for the Beijing crown.

Sabalenka momentarily seized the number one spot last season, only to be surpassed by Poland's Swiatek. She emphasized her focus on delivering a strong performance in the upcoming Asian swing to achieve her objective. Sabalenka said, "Of course, that's one of my goals, to finish the season at world number one. I'm trying to concentrate on my game with three tournaments left and bring my best tennis to the court."

Sabalenka has already secured a spot in the season-ending WTA Finals, along with Swiatek, and is keen to approach the Nov. 2-9 event with multiple wins. She noted the importance of performing well in Beijing to maintain momentum ahead of the Finals. "Between Wuhan and the Finals, there's a three-week gap, making it crucial to reach the later stages of these tournaments," Sabalenka added. The Beijing tournament is scheduled from Sept. 25 to Oct. 6.
