Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Tuesday to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as reported by Dawn. Sharif is scheduled to address a plenary meeting during the UN General Debate on September 27.
At the UNGA, PM Shehbaz will attend a reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, where he will have informal meetings with various heads of state. Additionally, he will participate in the UNGA's opening ceremony. Ahead of his address, Sharif highlighted his focus on promoting peace, development, and climate action.
In a post on X on September 21, the Prime Minister shared his anticipation for a week filled with engagements. He emphasized his intent to discuss global issues, present Pakistan's perspective, advocate national interests, and strengthen international partnerships. The 79th session's general debate, centered on the theme of 'Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity,' will run from September 24-30 amidst calls for enhanced international cooperation on pressing global challenges.
