Formula One teams are contemplating a shift from the conventional post-season young driver test in Abu Dhabi to an exhilarating 10-car sprint race for rookies. Red Bull's team principal, Christian Horner, revealed the proposal during an FIA news conference at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Friday, highlighting recent discussions within the Formula One Commission.

Horner emphasized that the sprint race, scheduled potentially after the last grand prix at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina on Dec. 8, would offer a significant improvement over the routine testing. He noted that it would provide a platform for young drivers to showcase their skills in actual competition conditions rather than just running laps.

The proposed format includes qualifying and a 100km race on the same day, allowing ten rookies to race current cars without the teams' usual concerns about damage. Horner, along with Haas boss Ayao Komatsu and Sauber's Alessandro Alunni Bravi, supports this innovative idea, seeing it as a valuable and thrilling opportunity for young talent.
