Canada moved closer to the Davis Cup Final Eight with a decisive 3-0 victory over Finland in Group D. Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime won their singles and doubles matches. Australia and Germany also recorded 3-0 wins in their respective groups, while the Netherlands edged out Brazil 2-1.
Canada is on the verge of clinching a spot in the Davis Cup Final Eight after securing a comprehensive 3-0 win over Finland in Group D on Thursday. Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime each claimed victory in their singles matches before pairing up to dominate the doubles.
Shapovalov comfortably defeated Eero Vasa 7-6(2) 6-2, while Auger-Aliassime made light work of Otto Virtanen with a 6-2 6-3 win. The two then teamed up to dispatch Virtanen and Harri Heliovaara 6-2 7-5 in doubles, avenging last year's loss to Finland. "Everybody's in good spirits," Auger-Aliassime commented.
Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands also made significant strides in their respective groups. Australia cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic, helped by a default in one match. Germany dominated Chile with a similar scoreline, while the Netherlands narrowly overcame Brazil 2-1 in Group A.
