McLaren's Team Dynamics: Norris and Piastri's Strategies Revealed
McLaren's Lando Norris discusses team dynamics with Oscar Piastri as they aim for the Formula One title against Max Verstappen. Team principal Andrea Stella outlines the team’s strategy ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, emphasizing a balanced approach between supporting Norris and maintaining sportsmanship principles.
Lando Norris has clarified that he does not expect Oscar Piastri to hand him race wins, despite McLaren's decision to back the Briton in the Formula One title battle against Max Verstappen.
Team principal Andrea Stella, speaking to the BBC before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, emphasized that McLaren aims to support Norris without compromising the team's core principles. Norris remarked that such team tactics are more likely to apply to lower positions rather than top spots.
Referenced as saying, 'He's still fighting for his own racing. He's still going out and doing his stuff. And it could be that there's no time this year that he needs to help me,' Norris underscored that the support from Piastri will come only when necessary. McLaren is closely trailing defending champions Red Bull in both drivers' and constructors' standings, and Norris stressed his desire to win through merit and competition rather than team orders.
