Sharuk Khan Expected to Shine in South Asian Junior Athletics Championships
India’s Sharuk Khan is set to be a standout performer at the three-day South Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Chennai. India's record-breaking athlete Sharuk Khan is anticipated to be one of the top performers at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships starting Wednesday in Chennai.
Khan, from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is part of a 62-member Indian team selected by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for the event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. He holds the national U20 record in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:42.06, and plans to further improve his record at this event.
Other athletes to watch include Pooja, the U20 record holder in women's high jump, and Anurag Singh Kaler, Siddharth Choudhary, and Ritik, all medal winners at the 2024 Asian U20 Championships. Chief junior national athletics coach N Ramesh has high expectations for the Indian 4x100m women's relay team, which set a national U20 record earlier this year. The event will feature athletes from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, providing crucial exposure for emerging talents.
