Indian Paralympic Heroes Honored for Record-Breaking Paris 2024 Performance

In an event held in the national capital on Tuesday, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, along with Union Minister Raksha Khadse, honored the members of the Indian Paralympic contingent. The ministers extended heartfelt congratulations to the athletes, celebrating their exceptional achievements at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Addressing the athletes, Mandaviya expressed national pride and assured continued government support. He emphasized the government's dedication to helping athletes and coaches reach their full potential through various initiatives. Mandaviya highlighted that 50 of the 84 participants were supported through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and other programs including Khelo India and National Centres of Excellence (NCOE).

Reflecting on India's upward trajectory in Paralympic performance, Mandaviya noted the country's medal tally increase from 19 in Tokyo 2020 to 29 in Paris 2024. He underscored significant achievements such as five double podium finishes, 11 athletes winning back-to-back medals, and multiple debut victories. The event also highlighted record-breaking performances by Indian para-athletes and historic participation by Indian women athletes.
