Defending champions India displayed their prowess as Sukhjeet Singh struck a brace, leading the team to a resounding 5-1 victory over Japan in the Men's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament on Monday.

Sukhjeet found the net in the second and 60th minutes, while teammates Abhishek, Sanjay, and Uttam Singh contributed to the scoreline. Matsumoto Kazumasa managed to pull one back for Japan in the 41st minute.

The Indian squad, led by Harmanpreet Singh, will face Malaysia on Wednesday after enjoying a rest day on Tuesday. The top four teams from the round-robin league will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for September 16, with the final set for September 17.
