Paraguay held Uruguay to a goalless draw in their South American World Cup qualifier on Friday, marking the end of striker Luis Suarez's 17-year international career at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo. At 37, Suarez leaves behind a legacy, having earned 143 caps and scored a record 69 goals for his country.

Marcelo Bielsa's squad, fresh off a third-place Copa America finish, were without five starting players, including Darwin Nunez, who faced suspension after clashes with fans following their defeat to Colombia in July. Despite several missed opportunities, including a close first-half volley from Suarez, Uruguay couldn't break through.

Paraguay had their own moments of promise, most notably Miguel Almiron's attempt that was thwarted by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet. However, neither side could capitalize on their chances. With 14 points, Uruguay remains second in the World Cup qualifying standings, trailing Argentina by four. Uruguay will play Venezuela next while Paraguay faces Brazil.
