Defender Laldinliana Renthlei has rejoined Chennaiyin FC, marking his return ahead of the new Indian Super League (ISL) season.
Renthlei, originally from Mizoram, is 26 years old and has previously played for Jamshedpur FC and Odisha FC. He played a pivotal role during his first stint with Chennaiyin, notably helping the club reach the final of the 2019-20 ISL season, where they finished as runners-up.
Renthlei is the 13th signing for Chennaiyin FC this season, joining fellow defenders Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Mandar Rao Desai, and PC Laldinpuia. Head coach Owen Coyle expressed his optimism, citing Renthlei's outstanding performance as a full-back in past seasons. Coyle and Renthlei's association dates back to their successful run with Jamshedpur FC, where they won the Shield.
With a clear goal to win the ISL, Renthlei emphasized the club's winning spirit and support from incredible fans as key factors for his return. He has also played for Chhinga Veng and Aizawl FC, emerging as a prominent player during the 2017-18 season in the Mizoram Premier League.
