Midfielder Jordan Veretout has inked a two-year contract with Lyon, moving from Marseille in a transfer deal announced late Wednesday.

Lyon confirmed the transaction is valued at four million euros initially, with a potential three million euros in bonuses and a 25% profit on any future transfer.

Veretout, previously omitted from new Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi's strategy, was acquired by Lyon as a 'joker' and will be eligible for Europa League play. Under French regulations, clubs can sign one additional player outside the ordinary transfer window if they are active in domestic competitions.

Despite recently facing online harassment, Veretout boasts a rich career, including stints with Aston Villa, Fiorentina, and Roma. The 31-year-old has recorded over 500 professional appearances with 66 goals and 63 assists to his name.

He was part of the French squad that won the 2021 Nations League and participated in the 2022 World Cup.
