Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has openly criticized Shan Masood's captaincy during their second home Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. This defeat marked a significant low point for Pakistan as it was their first time losing to Bangladesh in red-ball cricket on home soil.
Despite the second Test losing an entire day to rain, Bangladesh seized every opportunity to ensure a six-wicket victory. Pakistan appeared to have the game under control in the first innings when they reduced Bangladesh to 26/6. However, a remarkable partnership between Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz turned the tables in favor of the visitors.
Basit Ali lambasted Masood's leadership, attributing Pakistan's failure to his captaincy. He argued that Masood's decisions on the field enabled Litton and Mehidy to thrive. Basit didn't hold back, describing the performance as 'third-class' and questioning Masood's role in the team. Ahmed Shehzad echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that Masood would not be in the squad if he were not captain. Following this series defeat, Pakistan is set to host England for a three-match home Test series in October.
