Indian shooter Avani Lekhara narrowly missed out on a medal at the ongoing Paralympic Games. The 22-year-old, who is paralyzed from the waist down due to a car accident, finished fifth in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 competition on Tuesday.

Lekhara shot a total of 420.6 across the stages of kneeling, prone, and standing. Although she momentarily led the final, her performance dipped in the prone stage. Despite performing well in the standing stage, an unexpected score of 8.3 hindered her final result.

Earlier in the day, Lekhara secured her spot in the final by finishing seventh in the qualification round with a total score of 1159. The SH1 class is designated for athletes with lower-limb impairments, who compete by shooting from either a standing or sitting position.
