Joe Root achieved a significant milestone on Saturday at Lord's, scoring his 34th test century for England. This surpasses Sir Alastair Cook's record of 33 test centuries, making Root the country's greatest centurion in test cricket.

Root steadily built his way to this landmark with a back-to-back century in the second innings of the second test against Sri Lanka. He reached 102 by smashing a four on day three, contributing to England's enormous lead.

Earlier in the test, Root had equaled Cook's century tally with an impressive score of 143 in the first innings, before breaking the record in the second innings.
