West Indies seamer Shannon Gabriel has called it a day on his international cricket career, effective immediately. The 36-year-old has featured in 86 international matches for West Indies, largely in the Test format where he gained recognition as a formidable fast bowler.

Gabriel made his Test debut against England at Lord's in 2012, but it was a 2018 Test against Sri Lanka that marked his most memorable performance, securing career-best figures of 8/62. His 13 wickets in that match remain the fourth-best haul for a West Indies bowler, trailing only legends Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh, and Gudakesh Motie.

Gabriel's last Test was in Trinidad in July of the previous year, where his final wicket was that of India's captain Rohit Sharma. As rain interrupted the match, it concluded in a draw. Gabriel took to social media to announce his retirement, expressing plans to continue playing for Trinidad and Tobago and engaging in franchise cricket globally.

"Over the past 12 years, playing international cricket for the West Indies has brought immense joy," Gabriel stated on Instagram. "However, all good things must end. I thank God, Cricket West Indies, my teammates, and supporters for making this journey special."

"I will continue to represent my country, club, and franchise teams with the same passion," he added. (ANI)
