Iva Jovic, a 16-year-old from California, made history by becoming the youngest American to win a women's main-draw match at the U.S. Open since 2000, defeating 2023 Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette of Poland with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
"Surprised, but not surprised," Jovic remarked on her victory against a top-20 ranked opponent, adding that her game plan required minimal adjustments.
