Augsburg assistant coach Lars Knudsen is set to temporarily lead the Danish national team in upcoming Nations League encounters against Switzerland and Serbia next month. The Danish Football Union made this announcement on Monday, citing interim coach Morten Wieghorst's leave of absence due to minor stress symptoms.

Wieghorst, a former Denmark international, had been named interim coach following Kasper Hjulmand's resignation after the European Championship. Under Hjulmand's guidance, Denmark drew all three group stage games before falling to Germany in the round of 16. Wieghorst's tenure was supposed to last until next year.

Knudsen, who previously served as a set piece coach for the U.S. men's national team, joined Augsburg in January. Denmark will host Switzerland on September 5 and Serbia on September 8 in Copenhagen. Denmark's director of football, Peter Møller, described the situation as 'special' and termed the timing as 'unfortunate.'
