In a thrilling encounter, U Mumba TT's spirited fightback was not enough as they succumbed to a 6-9 defeat to debutants Jaipur Patriots in the Ultimate Table Tennis 2024. Despite the heroic efforts of Manav Thakkar, who alongside Maria Xiao staged a sensational comeback in the mixed doubles round and won his men's singles match against Snehit SFR, U Mumba fell short.

Jaipur Patriots' international stars Cho Seung-min and Suthasini Sawettabut had earlier secured pivotal victories. Cho, in only his second UTT match, defeated African table tennis great Quadri Aruna 3-0. Suthasini followed by besting Spain's Maria Xiao in a nail-biting contest decided by a Golden Point.

Despite Thakkar's outstanding display, the task to continue the comeback was on Sutirtha Mukherjee, who eventually succumbed to Jaipur's Nithyashree Mani. Manav took home the Indian Player of the Tie award, while Cho and Nithyashree were named the Foreign Player of the Tie and DafaNews Shot of the Tie recipients, respectively.
