Race for BCCI Secretary: Who Will Replace Jay Shah?

Jay Shah is poised to become the next ICC Chairman, backed by 15 out of 16 ICC Board members. However, his potential departure leaves a significant gap in the BCCI, as he still has one year in his term as BCCI secretary. Several names like Rajiv Shukla, Ashish Shelar, and Arun Dhumal are being discussed as possible successors.

Jay Shah seems likely to ascend to the role of ICC Chairman, supported by an impressive majority of 15 out of 16 ICC Board members. However, his potential departure raises questions about who will succeed him as the BCCI secretary, especially with one year remaining in his current term.

The ICC Chairman position will be taken over on December 1, with nominations closing on August 27. Shah faces a tight deadline of less than 96 hours to make his decision. If Shah chooses to transition to the ICC, his mandatory three-year cooling-off period from the BCCI will commence after his term concludes in October 2025.

PTI reviews possible candidates for the role: Rajiv Shukla, Ashish Shelar, and Arun Dhumal are among the top contenders. Rajiv Shukla, BCCI vice-president and a Congress MP, could take the secretary position for a year. Ashish Shelar, the current treasurer, and Arun Dhumal, IPL Chairman, also bring valuable experience and influence to the table. Several younger administrators like DDCA's Rohan Jaitley and former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya are also possible candidates for the role.
